This one is a definite favourite in our office! The legendary work of John C Maxwell, the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is a guidebook for developing your leadership skills across your businesses and life.
🔥 Hot tip: get the workbook edition!
The workbook edition provides reflective questions and exercises to understand your strengths and constraints in your leadership across the 21 laws.
We recommend getting an accountability buddy on this one and working through it across the year – this is not a quick read and ✅ book. As many a great mentor have said…..
“You’ve gotta do the work!”
You will 100% only get the best out of this by working through it in detail and considering your areas for development.
Some of our favourites include:
The Law of the Lid: How well you lead determines how well you succeed 👏
A classic example of the leader as the constraint, the Law of the Lid helps you recognise limitations on success and effectiveness as a leader. There’s also a great distinction on effectiveness vs productivity (e.g. leadership vs ethic/effort). In fact, there’s a lot of success in our coaching clients by simply shining a light on this one and removing those limitations through the support of the coaching program and mindset shifts.
📈 The Law of the Big Mo: Momentum is a leader’s best friend
We all know this feeling, momentum is the difference between feeling stuck, and making progress. In business you might be doing all the things (and it feels like a lot of effort), but you’re not really getting to where you need to be. This one ties into our principle of the coaching journey too. Sometimes in the first year of coaching, our clients can experience massive learnings, put in a whole lot of work, but the momentum hasn’t yet kicked in and things still feel a bit hard or stuck. Momentum is what shifts the trajectory of the organisation and it’s people. Great leaders are the best way to get this started by bringing together the vision and belief in the team. The Law of the Big Mo is a great one to focus on to shift outcomes and create accomplish goals.
🟢 The Law of the Inner Circle: Those closet to you determine your level of success
“Nobody does anything great alone”
This one fits perfectly into our purpose as a coaching organisation. Curating an inner circle that supports and celebrates your success is key to your quality of life. It’s why being part of our community is so powerful. Leadership can sometimes be lonely. Surrounding yourself with other leaders is key to developing yourself, and it’s not only critical in your network of peers, but also your team. As Maxwell says, a close knit team of leaders in your inner circle will value excellence, have integrity and value people. They’ll add value to you and those around them. This one is also a good one to review on how you’re adding value to someone else’s inner circle too.
Our final tip for the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is…… add it to your coaching call agenda. If your one of our clients, chat to your coach about adding this to your agenda – keeping focussed on developing your skills in this area will definitely bring results!
Yours in self development!!
