What Are Points of Culture?

A point of culture is a shared value, belief, attitude, or assumption that unites your team. It sets the standard for how people operate, interact, and make decisions.

When you walk into the EBS head office, you’ll see our 13 Points of Culture proudly displayed on the walls. They serve as constant reminders of who we are, how we work, and what we stand for.

Each week, a team member selects one point of culture to focus on. This keeps our values front of mind and helps reinforce consistent behaviours across the business.

How to Create Your Own Points of Culture

Developing meaningful points of culture starts with asking: “What do we stand for as a business?”

Here’s how to begin:

  • Start with simple one-line statements
    Write down short, clear phrases that describe your business at its best. These statements should reflect your values in action.

  • Define what each one looks and feels like
    For example, at EBS one of our core values is Excellence. As business coaches, that means striving to deliver the highest quality training, guidance, and support in every conversation and with every client.

    Another of our culture points is Integrity. For us, that means doing the right thing, even when it’s difficult or inconvenient. And, holding ourselves accountable at all times.

Make them visible and lived, not hidden and forgotten
Once defined, display your culture points where your team can see them daily.

  • Offices can feature them on walls or near workstations.
  • Trades businesses might print them in vehicles or on toolboxes.
  • Digital teams can set them as desktop backgrounds or share them during meetings.

 

Revisit and refresh them regularly
Culture isn’t static. Review your points of culture quarterly to ensure they still reflect your business as it grows. This helps keep the team aligned, focused, and engaged around a shared purpose.
